Kanika joined the Read2Rap team in November 2012 after the program was presented to her grade 12 English class at Cedarbrae Collegiate. Kanika felt an instant connection with the program, its teachings and its approach to music. She contacted Read2Rap immediately after class and has been a part of the team ever since.
As someone who has volunteered and enjoyed working with youth before, Kanika felt this would be a good experience for her. Kanika has brought her writing, singing and her interpersonal skills to the team, making a positive impact with the youth that she interacts with. She encourages youth to think outside of the box when they are writing and is a strong believer in respect and team work. While working with Read2Rap Kanika has been able to grow as an individual and a member of the team and has found deeper purpose within her self. Since participating in the class, Kanika co-facilitated classes at the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough location and is currently facilitating classes at Toronto Housing. As a member of the group she hopes to grow and be able to work with many more youth in many different areas in the city.
